In the course Constructive Design Research, I aimed to explore the showroom methodology as a tool in design research processes, learn how to balance critical thinking without it being too dark, and explore design research itself.
Through our project on the application of AI in the context of dementia, I learned how to critically address emerging technologies, particularly when vulnerable groups are involved. Through making a structured research plan, we designed an intervention including a speculative experience and a discussion for data gathering.
This process also deepened my skills in Research Through Design methods, including interviews, thematic analysis, and academic writing. I discovered how speculative design can open debates and gather insights on societal and technological ethics.
This reinforced my decision to follow the CDR track, aiming to use design for critical inquiry and use design to create new knowledge.
